Porting 014
![]() Exhaust bowl treatment is similar, but special attention is paid to widening the bottom of the port as it makes the turn. Lots of meat is dug from the roof around the guide, but there is water there.
Exhaust valve job has a 37degree top cut, a 45 degree seat .070 wide, and a throat diameter figured on having a 60degree bottom cut .100 wide. However, a 60degree cut is not made, rather a 57.5degree stone is used to narrow the seat to .070, then the tootsie rolls are used to grind a smooth radius from the edge of the seat, into the port. You will quickly learn to appreciate your optivisor here! I have not been able to make the "straight off the short side" type of seat work on these heads as it does on the Chevrolet heads. I dunno.
Short side of exhaust pport (floor) is extremely critical, cause it is so damn sharp. Proceed with caution. Needs width, as much as possible. This particular head could be better in that regard. As the flow turns and heads toward the exit, it moves to the roof of the port, so floor width at the port exit matters very little. Concentrate your efforts on the top half of the port here.
